Scoliosis

That high shoulder or high hip on one side of your body may indicate something greater going on with your spine.  Scoliosis, or abnormal curvature of the spine can be a debilitating condition that is more common than you think.

The normal spine is supposed to be straight looking from the front or back view, and have 3 natural curves looking from the side. Scoliosis is mostly a crooked or curved spine looking from the front or behind, but can also cause flattening of the mid back or neck curves.

Scoliosis can occur at any age, but is most serious the younger it develops. An infant or juvenile can have it, but during the adolescent years is when it can worsen the most. If scoliosis is present during the teen years, due to growth spurts, it can go out of control, leading to serious deformity and even invasive surgery.

Many people over 60 years of age can also have it and the problem here is the pain, mobility and degeneration issues that develop during this time of life. Adult scoliosis can originate from a pre-existing adolescent scoliosis, or it can be a new development of scoliosis in adulthood (called De Novo Scoliosis).

Young and old alike are affected by the aesthetics of having a crooked spine.  Elevation Health chiropractors are trained to thoroughly investigate and treat scoliosis with state of the art adjusting, exercise and spinal reconstructive equipment to slow down, stop, or in some cases even see correction in scoliosis cases.

Scoliosis is a 3-dimensional condition that needs to be treated 3 dimensional.  Scolibracing is another feature that we use to treat scoliosis, to reduce pain, improve cosmetics and postural and body symmetry, promote better spine balance, help with fall prevention in the older population, and slow or stop worsening or correct abnormal curves.

Whether you are here in Windsor/Tecumseh or anywhere else in Essex County, dysfunction in your musculoskeletal system does not discriminate. Anyone can benefit from the healing attributes of chiropractic care in order to provide relief from any form of discomfort that one undergoes when they have a misaligned spine, back, or neck.

Scoliosis is the sideways curvature of the spine. A healthy spine also has curves at the top of the shoulder and the lower back.
